The Dialling Tone

Hello lovely people :)

I did a simple little recording as a break from work today. Not fabulous quality, but I thought I'd post it for you.

Lots of love xxxxxxxxx

 The Dialling Tone by hollykirby

LYRICS:

It's 6am, he's all alone
One coffee later he picks up his mobile phone
And dials a dream, a lover undefined
He sets the scene, rehearses all his lines

"Good morning sweetheart, kiss me now
And wake my body up, for only you know how
To thrill me so, to soothe these days of woe.
I feel you here, the nights of sadness go."

She took his charm on the chin
But had already let him in
She'd invited him in
Before she knew he was a fool
He had rearranged the room
And the pieces of her too
A decadent play
Just a game, just a game
Re-igniting his flame
Girl by girl, day by day

"Oh say the words I long to hear,
I love you and the way you make me feel.
You have my heart, and all the things I am;
A fearless soul, a lion of a man."

He leaves her with the dialling tone
An emptiness inside, a dream she made her own
He's not her love - he faded with the dream
And what remains is lonely and obscene

She took his charm on the chin
But had already let him in
She'd invited him in
Before she knew he was a fool
He had rearranged the room
And the pieces of her too
A decadent play
Just a game, just a game
Re-igniting his flame
Girl by girl, day by day

She took his charm on the chin
But had already let him in
She'd invited him in
Before she knew he was a fool
He had rearranged the room
And the pieces of her too
A decadent play
Just a game, just a game
Re-igniting his flame
Girl by girl, day by day

nice piece, sets a mood and tells a somewhat mysterious story. Somewhat reminded me of Mary Chapin Carpenter, who I was fortunate enough to recently see again in concert.

Yep, guys can do that to girls, and vice versa.
Enchanting song Holly, made more so by the way you were so close to the mic it picked up every nuance of your voice. Just the way you say "rehearses" in the 1st verse is shiver inducing.

Thankee muchly for this

Astonishing. Always the same boring landscape. Sex as a zero-sum game open to the top. Enacted as a ritual of power and dominance,. From "120 days of sodom" downgraded to "50 shades of grey". My respect for Heinrich von Kleist, who made a straight line in "Penthesilea". He first developed German language into a weapon, packed love, brutality and sex together, let it all end up in a cannibalistic act and follow up suicide - Full stop!

Eeeeek!

Strong forms of expression, an intense, sensual language, that's why von Kleist rules. Holly possesses some genes of this guy:

The Whisper in the Wind

The whisper in the wind
The flicker of the flame
The dynamite of freedom
The fastest in the game

The hunter of the hunting
The seeker of the sought
The pilot of the elements
The catcher of the caught

Mmmm! Nice and breathy. Another track for that late night piano bar album you are going to do one day.

I wonder if Woody Allen read Kleist before he wrote Love and Death and then decided the Greeks were far too dysfunctional so did a Russian comedy instead.

Ah! Mary Chapin Carpenter! I love her song This Shirt. Such a story.

Xeno, Mr Allen might have avoided the Greeks for a long time but than had to surrender Mighty Aphrodyte, which brings us back to the topic.
