A matter of fancy dress... :)

Hello everyone :)

Just thought I'd do a bit of a blog for you. :)

The album artwork is currently at the manufacturers and I hope to be receiving the proofs next week. :) Then I need to send them back and say they're OK and then they make my CDs! :) Cool, huh? The manufacturers are very good and very helpful. They like everything to be just so, which is nice. :)

I have a question for you now... after a comment on my previous blog I had a thought... ;)

At stated in the previous blog, I'm playing at the Bestival later this year. :) And at the Bestival they always have a dressing up theme. In the past it has been 'space', and 'the sea' - but this year it's 'fantasy'...

Here's what Rob da Bank (Bestival organiser) has to say about it. :)

Rob da Bank says: "Roll up roll up tribe of the Bestivalites: descend from your starships, rise out of the seabed, fall from the stars, unleash the Magick and release your imagination into our 2010 world of FANTASY. Open the gates and welcome in Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, The Lord of the Rings, hobbits, trolls, elves, fairies, the Odyssey, King Arthur, Merlin, the Dong with the luminous nose, William Morris, A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Willy Wonka, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, Harry Potter, Spirited Away, The Time Machine, Star Wars, the Incredible Hulk, Magick, the supernatural, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lord Ganesh, Fantasy Island, Caractacus Potts, Tarzan, Veruca Salt, Zombies ... the only limit is how far your mind's eye can see!"

I was just wondering if you had any ideas as to what I should go as? :) I like dressing up as quirky things...but I can't think of anything at the mo! Lol. And I'm sure that you've got some ideas! :)

Please feel free to let me know in the comments box! :)

OMGoodness! Me and Jr. have been working all the day long here putting up shades and shelving on the wall. I am too tired to think right now, lol. My first impression is that it be something that you are totally comfortable with. And... do you have an alter ego to play with?

Lemme think, lol.

Welche Rolle in diesem Pantheon spielen?

The instant thought is that you could revisit your "Oily loves Alaaaan" outfit. You could guarantee that no one else would be wearing the same thing. But the daffs could be a bit of a problem at that time of the year so I will have another think and return.

Xeno made me think of the 'Oily Woit' Girl, LOL!

I agree with WG ~ if I am understanding you correctly :)
A sort of Beautiful Deceit with maybe a veiled hat and long black lace (fingerless ;)) gloves? Tasteful yet mysterious!

Something different but also practical.Does green suit you? If so,what about a Maid Marian look from the Douglas Fairbanks or Richard Greene era...Robin Hood,Robin Hood riding through the glen......feared by he bad, loved by the good,Robin Hood,Robin Hood,Robin Hood....You could wear a really cool hat !

Lady of Shallot. Two ladies for the price of one!

If you do the Lady of Shallot at least I can lend you a suitable dress.

I can see you as Alice in Wonderland.

Mysterious is good especially given the name of your upcoming CD.Could you add a kind of Georgiana,Duchess of Devonshire/Jane Austen/Late C18th Masqued Balls element to the Lady of Shallot idea by wearing one of those exotic masks on a stick ? Mind you,you might end up as A Woman No-One Knows.Or,even worse,A Woman No-One Wants To Know!!!!

Wer ist eigentlich Trevor?

Georgiana,Duchess of Devonshire was a leading socialite of the late C18th and the subject of a recent film starring Keira Knightley.I was really referring to High Society Dress at that time rather than the Duchess herself.I suspect it was rather similar in Hanover at that time. The mask offered anonymity and mystery so that,I suspect, the social elite could behave in a way which would,if known,be thought immoral or licentious.Sorry I can't respond in German,Wolfgang;I hope you can make sense of this.Best Wishes,Trevor

The strangest things pop into my head sometimes, lol. Like... a lady Viking warrior:

The non-warrior ones are cool as well, lol!

Steady on Larry. You'll have her dressing as Xena next. No that that would be a bad thing. It's just with English weather she might get cold.

If all else fails I have a cheap option which has both Shakespearean and PreRaphaelite connotations.First of all,ask your mum to get a bucket and fill it with water;then collect a variety of weeds from the garden(pond weed would be eminently suitable),put them in the bucket and stir gently. Then get a family volunteer to tip the bucket over your head and Voila!you become Ophelia!AND,when you dry out you are immediately transformed into one of the three Witches of Cawdor!

If you had a horse, you could be Lady Godiva but, that would *really* be asking for a cold! (j/k) lol

Still thinking...

LOL at you lot ~ brilliant ideas!!! :)

One tiny thing that may be worth remembering is that Holly will be playing her guitar when she is on stage in her costume so things could get tricky if she is holding anything.

Last year when H played in the Kashmir Tent at the IW Festival it was boiling hot (as you can see by her red face in some of the pics :)) but the Bestival hasn't always been so lucky weatherwise and sometimes ends up as a mud bath ~ eeeeuw!! Really tricky to prepare ahead :S

That certainly makes a long flowing or heavy dress questionable, doesn't it? What about Pocohontas or Cow Girl?

Pierro,as in Who Are You or a sort of Page Boy look.Who was the girl who pretended to be a boy but then discovered to be a beautiful girl and the Prince fell in love with her and everyone lived happy ever after?Am I making this up?

How about Salome? She could sing and dance and if it gets too hot you can always dump some of the veils. I don't think Strauss envisioned her with a guitar but that could be your personal interpretation of the role.
