Hellooo! :)

Hello everyone! :)

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. - Lucky you if you had actually got a bit warmer over here - no chance of a White Christmas. :-S Oh well. Perhaps we'll get some in February like we did this year. :)

I'm just going to do a little write up on the Boxing Day gig with Nick. :)

It was a really nice actually, I had a lot of fun. It's good playing with someone else for a change. - I don't know if I explained before, but I'm going to be playing some gigs with Nick - who is a great musician and part of a few musically things. He's part of an acoustic duo called 'Shoot the Moon' - and Becky, the lady who usually plays with him can't do some gigs in the I'm kind of stepping in. - And this gig was one of those. :)

We tried to do a kind of varied set...we both played guitar on some songs and just Nick sang, then I just sang, then Nick would play and I sang, and we also used the dulcimer and Nick used his mandolin which was cool. :)

I've learnt a few new covers too...such as...

Seven Days
A Case of You

(I'll put a video clip of each song at the bottom of the blog - just in case you don't know them and want to have a listen. :))

Here are a few photos...

Scary eyes!!! :-S
This could be Rotterdam...*or anywhere...Liverpool or Rome...* :P

I don't know why, but I really like that third picture...there's something really...vintage about it. Lol. :) Good work sis. :)

Anyhow, I'd best be off. :) - I plan on having a go at that software today, so hopefully I can show you some video soon.

TTFN everyone, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year. :)

Lots of love.xxxxx

P.S - In answer to Uncle Tim's question, I just used the Martin D-28. :)

Technical stuff...

Hi everyone...this is just a quick message to say that I don't think I'm going to be able to get the video done tonight...Final Cut is a little more technical than I first thought. :-S xx

Studio: Days 4 & 5 :)

Hi everyone :)

I thought I'd do these two days together - hopefully to give you a bit more to read which is hopefully a bit more interesting. :)

Thursday was a veeery exciting day. :) It waaaas...drummer day! We paid for a real life, properly amazing drummer to come in and play on my songs.
He arrived at the studio earlier than we did to set the drums up and also because he had to leave earlier than normal. When we arrived he had already listened to a few of the songs and had written some notes on them.
We tried 'Topsy Turvy World' first, so he went into the live room (or the 'lonely room' as Olli called it!) and started playing straight away. - It was actually brilliant. He knew exactly what to do, and it was soooo good. Especially with all the fills etc. :) - and then we did the others too. He just had to listen to each song once, and then he could play it. He was brilliant - I think he was described as a 'machine with groove' a few times. :)
I could still say things like 'please could we change that fill there?' or 'please could you close the hi-hat for that bit?' and he was fine with that - well I didn't have to say it very often anyway. :)
He managed to get 9 songs done in the day! :) Well - from about 9am - 3.30pm, which is pretty impressive!
After that there was just a bit of editing going on. And I think we may have recorded the vocals for 'Impossible'...or maybe that was...

:) We decided to wait until after the drums were done to record the vocals on 'Impossible' - (yes! It has drums :P) because we thought my singing style might be a little bit different due to the change in instrumentation.
Friday mainly consisted of finishing touches. - We added some electric guitar and bass to Impossible, Topsy Turvy, and a few bits of backing vocals to Tripping Through Violets, Impossible, A Woman You Don't Know, Poetry and Quite Blue...we'd already done My Little Ukulele Song. :)

And that was pretty much it for recording! :) I'll be back soon with some video clips - hopefully - as I've got some new editing software. :) My other stuff kept playing up and doing really weird random things. :-S

Anyhow, best be off. :)

TTFN xxxxx

P.S - Susan - Tea Leaves & Old Magazines still has the guitary bit in the middle. :) It's sort of emphasised because of the drums and strings. :) (I'm listening to it now just to make sure! ;))

Studio: Day 3...

Hello! I'm back - sorry I left a bit of a gap...and now I have to remember what happened a week ago... :-S

On Wednesday we recorded most of the vocals, which I enjoyed lots. :) We were also sorting out the instruments, making sure the vocals were in tune and everything was quantized as it should be before the drummer came in on Thursday... :)

It doesn't seem like a week ago that we were doing all that. - My time there felt like it went soooo quickly! I think one of main reasons I'm really going to try to promote this CD as much as possible is so that I can go back and make another one, hopefully for a bit longer - if they'll have me! :) And I'd better get writing some more songs. I've got a few that I could put on a newer one already...Who Are You?, Warmer in May, The Lady and the Past, Gone For more and I could make an EP...hmmmm... :)

Right now I'm starting to think about artwork etc. - I think Donna and I are going to go out and take some pics...and I've got a title now....reeeadyyy?......*drumrooooll....*

Dada! I chose that because people may tend to think 'what's that all about then?' and be a bit more interested than if it was self titled or something.

Anyhow, I'd best be off. :)

  11. My Little Ukulele Song

(I warn you now - Impossible is quite different, but I am now pleased with it. :P)

Studio - Day 2...

Tuesday consisted of the same sort of thing as Monday. We were going through tracks and quantizing, recording guitar and also recording the vocals on a few songs. Before I started singing I was actually quite nervous, but when I got into the swing of it I was fine.

There's nothing much to report for Tuesday aside from that. :-S

Ooh - by the way - I did take a little bit of footage, but I'm having probs with my editing software. (Grrrr...) - I'll try to upload some little bits and bobs next week after we've finished. :)

Rest in Peace Ubi...

We learnt today that our very dear friend David 'UbiDuboi' passed away on Wednesday.

We'll never forget you David.

Studio Day 1...

As you can imagine, on Monday morning I was very excited! We got up really early to leave (5:45am – VERY early for me!) and caught the 7.30am boat across to the mainland. The boat arrived at about 8.30am and we didn’t have to be there until 10, so we had a quick look round the shopping centre in Southampton before going to the studio later on.
The peeps in the studio, Gareth and Olli, are really nice and I felt comfortable really quickly – if that makes sense. The sofa was really comfy and so were the ‘Mastermind’ styley chairs…but that’s not really what I mean. When I was trying to choose a studio, I had to pick one where I’d feel able to express myself, and not afraid to say ‘I think it should go like this…’ – and I definitely picked the right place. I really valued their opinions and I think we had the same thoughts about which direction each of the songs should go in. I’m really pleased with how they sound so far – really looking forward to the mixing process on Monday. :)
Anyhow, back to last Monday…
Most of the day was spent recording guitar tracks for a few of the songs and quantizing the files that I had ‘prepared.’ – I say ‘prepared’ because they were very rough. I mean – they were the ones from YouTube, but I realise now that I should have learnt how to do that before I went, as it would have saved a lot of time. I didn’t know what quantizing was before I went to the studio, but now I do…see - I’m learning.
So – that was Monday really. I think it was just about quantizing and picking different instrument tracks etc. (they use Macs and Logic and have loads of brilliant sounds).

I’ll be back tomorrow with a bit about Tuesday and the track listing. :)

I be back. :) I'm so tired! Lol.

This week has been absolutely brilliant. I've really REALLY enjoyed it. We finished all the recording today and we've just got the mixing left to do.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to start the studio 'diary' thing... I'll try to do a blog for each of the days and I'll also try to put a little bit of video on. :)

Seriously, I've had such a great time. It has been incredible.

The story begins... :)

See you tomorrow! xxxxx

I can't be long because I'm currently sat in the studio. 'I Live Through the Song' is currently being recorded with drums! We have a session drummer and he's incredible. I'm sitting here feeling very pleased/ecstatic. :)

Will do an update later on. :)

Got to go! xxxxxx

Hello lovely people.

Here's a link...please let me know if it works OK.

Hi everyone - as you can probably tell from the post below - I uploaded the video and then took it off again. I may just make it a thing for you E-Teamers/Forumers/Bloggers. I know - I'll put a private link on the website. - And then if anyone would like to have a look at it, you have to go on to the forum (anyone can join!) - and click on the link - and then you will be taken to a private bit on YT. I may make it public later on...

I'll just go and save it.

Coverrrrr Grrrrrr...

Hello lovely people...

I'm really sorry I haven't got the cover uploaded yet. My software is playing up. :-/ I recorded the video today - but I've been trying to edit it and various things have been going wrong. Gaarr.

I'll have another go as soon as I can.

It's a cover of Joni's 'Carey' on the dulcimer etc. - It was only meant to be a simple video, but it's not working. :-(

Oh well, I'll persevere.

At the Travs

Hello everyone :)

Thankyou so much for your great comments on the 'identity' post. You're all so wise. :)

I've come to write a little bit about the Travellers Gig last night. :)

It was a really great night actually - I enjoyed it lots. :) I was a bit nervous in the first half. - I don't know why. It may have been because I knew I was going to sing 'Carey' with the Dulcimer in the second half. :-S

I have a few nervous habits that I really need to stamp out too - these include...

Telling people after each song that I'm going to have a drink of water.
Telling people that I might go wrong.
Not tuning my guitar properly when doing DADF#AD tuning.

Amongst other things. But I'm learning, and I'll get there in the end.

I did my normal kind of set - but with a few newer ones such as...

Me and My Uncle...

And a new original called 'Warmer in May'...title chosen by the audience. :) That one is probs going to go on the CD. :)

Anyhooooow, I hope you are all well.

Thoughts on identity...

Hi everyone. :)

I thought I'd just write a little bit to go along with the song I've just posted. - Not so much an explanation, but other thoughts on identity etc....

You probably already know that it's something that interests/puzzles/frustrates me. Lol. "Pushing, pulling with my conscience just to find what's underneath..." Trying to work out who you truly are...feeling as though you have to find a place to fit it...maintaining your uniqueness...

It's all a bit confusing really. If you worry too much about being true to yourself, ignoring influences/advice from others, you can end up isolating yourself - and feeling unhappy about who you are.

Sometimes I feel as though I'm deceiving people with my appearance/the way I come across...I think that's why I like to try out lots of different styles. I'm showing people the different sides of me, and exploring my identity at the same time.

I have a friend who (no, it's not me. Lol) genuinely thinks she's inferior to those around her, and can't seem to value herself for who she is. She doesn't seem unhappy, but has sort of accepted herself as 'inferior' and just carries on leading her life, goes out, has fun as per norm. I get a bit frustrated with this, and try to ask exactly what it is that makes her feel a lesser being than those around her...but she just says..."I know I'm not really, but it's hard."

And I was thinking then - 'who am I to talk?' I'm always trying to stop myself feeling inferior.

Anyhow. I'm trying to say stuff, but I don't think I'm actually saying it. Lol. So I'd best be off for now...if you have any thoughts on the topic, then they'd be great to hear in the comments box - perhaps we could have a little discussion. :)

TTFN xxxxx

P.S - These lyrics just came on the ironic... Lol

Everybody's searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

Who are you? - An original by Holly Kirby

I tried to post this yesterday but it didn't work. :-(

Hopefully it works today...

Howdy. :)

Hi everyone. :)

How are you all?

Today it's Brooke's birthday. :) - Into the double figures now! :) A little fellow scorpio. ;)

Next week I'm going to check out a venue - possibly for an album launch gig. :) Which will be pretty cool. - Hopefully we can sell a few CDs there. :) - And I've got the gig at the Travellers on Tuesday. :) They sent out this message on Facebook...

Hi guys
Just to let you know that Holly Kirby is playing at the pub on Tuesday 24th November. If you didn't make the open mic nite come along and prepare to be amazed.

Which is really cool - but makes me a little bit scared. Lol. I hope I can do a good job. :-S They seem to like Joni's songs up there - so it's an excuse to learn more! Yaaaaaay!!! :D

Anyway - I'd best be off now - I need to get some recording done. :)

Speak soon.xxxxx

First post as a 19 year old! :P

Hi everyone! :)

I'm back. :) - I'm sorry it has been a while...

I've entered Live/Wired now. :) Thankyou for all of your suggestions and advice. :) Tea Leaves and Old Magazines is actually over 4 minutes long. - So I couldn't enter it into the competition as it was. :( This song entry was for the online voting stage. - There's just a short bio, a picture and a song to listen to from each artist/band. The public vote online for their favourite, and then the top three acts go into a live heat. There are two live heats and then a final. - Last year I got into the live heat, but was poorly so couldn't perform. :(

I did submit Tea Leaves - as I thought that Tripping Through Violets was a bit too summery sounding - but I chopped out the guitar section in the middle. If I did get into the live heats, of course I'd do it properly - but I couldn't really think of any other songs that would be appropriate. I was going to submit Poetry - but then thought that I probably shouldn't, as it doesn't represent my whole sort of style very well - with synthesizers and everything.

Ooh and also - I played at a different pub on Saturday evening - in Nick's band (Helter Skelter)'s break. It's called The Crispin. It was really fun actually. :) The audience seemed to like my set and I got some great feedback. :) - Someone said that I should go to the Open Mic Night at the Comical - so I'm going to look that up! Lol.

And yesterday was my birthday! Lol. Hoooray! Thankyou SOOOO much for your lovely birthday wishes here and on the website, you're all so lovely. :) 19 now...
Now I know what grown-ups mean when they say 'time flies...'
20 next year! :-S How very strange...

Ooh - by the way - Deborah (the lady I mentioned about two posts ago) now has a YouTube channel. I'll be adding some more videos for her today, but there's one there at the mo. Please feel free to have a looky - she's brill and a lovely person. :)

Thankyou ever so much for your continued support - you really are wonderful people. :)

Lots of love and hugs xoxoxox

Hmmm...what do you think?

Hello peeps - I sort of need your help...

I don't know if you remember, but this time last year I entered a competition called LiveWired - run by our local paper. The prize was to win a place on the Acoustic Stage at the festival. I got through the online votes, meaning I had to perform in a live heat, but then got a horrible chest infection meaning that I couldn't perform. :(

This year I'd really like to give it another go - but I don't know which song I should enter to begin with and that's where I need your help. Last year I entered Topsy Turvy World, but I've written quite a lot more since. This song will hopefully go on the website as a representative of my music.

At the moment I've sort of got Tripping Through Violets in my head as that's more true to my live performances. - Oh the song has to be under 4 minutes too. I think TTV makes that by a few seconds. Lol.

Anyway, what do you think?

TTFN xxxxxx

P.S - I've got driving later. :-S It was a bit scary last time - partly because of the dark - partly because I was a bit rubbish! Lol. Dithering is my worst trait when driving. :-S Eek.

I be back. :)

Hi everyone :)

I'm back from a weekend in Bournemouth. :) I left early on Saturday morning and arrived home yesterday afternoon. :) It was a really great weekend - just chilling and stuff. :)

On Friday I videoed a concert that my friend Vic put on for a lady called Deborah Hodgson at Brading Church. Deborah is an amazing musician. Here's a link to her website... and her myspace...

She played in the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival this year. - She came round yesterday evening with Vic for a cuppa and a chat. :) She gave me a copy of her CD and I've been listening to it all morning! It's so good. I think some of the footage that I took on Friday may be going on YouTube soon. :)

I've got choir today again...hopefully it'll be easier than last week. Fingers crossed! :-S

I may be back later on today. :)

I hope you're all OK.

P.S...You may have seen this already - but now it's on YouTube too...

The Anchor

Hello again! Wow - this is becoming rather regular! Lol. ;)

You know Nick, who I told you about in the last post? Well - on the night of the Open Mic Night he asked me if I'd like to play in the break of his set at another pub on Wednesday night...last night. :)

Nick is part of an acoustic duo called 'Shoot the Moon' with a lady called Becky (who's really nice and has a brill voice) - and he's also part of a band that plays regularly in Cowes and beyond.

So yesterday I turned up at the pub and did about half an hour in their break at the Anchor. :) I got some really nice feedback and the manager said that he'd like to book me for some solo gigs. :D Cooool. :) I also may be playing at his own party in December. :) - And also there were two ladies from another pub in Cowes who want to book me. :) Cooooool. :D Yay! :)

And I also have my driving lesson today...driving in the dark for the first time! Scaaaary. I think I'm going into the busy part of the Island today for the first time. - I'm a bit scared of traffic at the moment - clutch control and hill starts etc. - I'm getting there though! Lol.

Anyway - I'd best be off now. :)

Lots of love xxxxx

Am I a bit late for the cuppa? Lol.

Hello! I be here to write about the Open Mic night. :)

It was a lot of fun. :) I had a really good time and met some great people. I also got the chance to play with two other people there on two separate songs. :) - 'This Is The Life' and 'Run'. :)
Nick - the chap who was sort of organising it - is also a musician - a really good one at that. He did some songs first, and then I did a few (three)...I think I did...'Beautiful Deceit', 'Tripping Through Violets' and 'Big Yellow Taxi' first. :) I really love singing that last one - you may actually be able to see a video of it at some point - because someone was recording it for the pub's Facebook group. :)
People kept saying that I reminded them of Joni Mitchell last night too - which I was incredibly chuffed about. Not because I want to be like her - know...because I admire/hero worship her a bit/a lot.
Maybe it's the fringe. Lol.

I think she's just brilliant. :) Well, not JUST brilliant. But anyway... :) I have decided that she's my all time favourite singer/songwriter/musical person. (She's even a tiny bit above Enya...eek!)

Anyway - there were a few people who did bits and bobs last night. Every so often Nick would invite me back up to do another set of three, and I went on a few times. I think this is how the sets of three went...

Beautiful Deceit
Tripping Through Violets
Big Yellow Taxi

The Show
Tea Leaves and Old Magazines
Gold and Blue

This is the Life (with another guitarist and Nick on the drums. :))
If You Could Read My Mind

Streets of London
Topsy Turvy World
Cactus Tree

Run (with Nick and another guitarist - lovely chap - but I forgot to ask his name! :-S Numpty.)

After I'd finished, I was told that I'd be getting a solo gig at the pub within the next two weeks. :D Coooool! :)

Mum also took a pic. Glowing eyes! Lol...

That poster in the background doesn't JUST say 'KILL YOUR MATES' - it's actually a 'don't drink and drive' kind of poster from our local council. The whole thing says...
'Go out, get wrecked, drive your car, KILL YOUR MATES. Don't drink and drive.'

It's a bit scary really - I think the Island has the highest number of road accidents in the country. :-S And I'm just learning to drive at the mo. :-S Eek.

Anyway! Lol. Today Brooke is coming round for her music lesson. :) I'm teaching her the piano/guitar/singing. :) It's really enjoyable - a lot of giggling goes on! :) I've got a few pics from one of her lessons a few weeks ago...

Actually - that's the only sensible one - I spoil the rest...oh no, wait - I have another sensible one...There we go. :)

And also, I took this video of Violet - she was in her 'play with meeeee pleeeeeease' mood. :) She's getting bigger now! But she's still little. :)

Corr! - This is turning into an online scrapbook! Lol. :)

I'd better go now before I go on forever! :-P

TTFN xxxxx

P.S - Do you remember a while ago I did a post about a TV show called 'Waterloo Road'? Well it's back on telly! I'm so excited! :D It's on tonight - the second show in the series. :) Yay! All is good. ;)

Tuesday, 3 November 2009

I just thought I'd write another blog as I've just got back from choir. It was quite hard today actually. Everyone seems to be scared of getting the notes wrong or something and won't sing loudly.

It's quite frustrating for me because I know how good they could sound if only they were a little braver. It would help if we had a few more people - just to boost confidence.

I always seem to come out of choir with a bit of a funny throat. I think I talk more in that hour than I do for the rest of the week! Lol. It's all practice for the future if I do decide to become a teacher though. That's what I'm aiming for anyway.

The thing about teaching at the moment is that I don't know if I'm doing it right. Sometimes they say that they enjoy it, and other times they don't say anything - but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't enjoy it. Oh I don't know...

Anyway - I'd better go and prepare a few songs for later on.

I'll try to do a little blog later - depending on what time I get back. I may do it in the morning so that Larry can read it with his cuppa again. ;) xxxxx

To open mic...or not to open mic...

Tonight I'm going to do an open mic night. - I'm a bit scared as I've never done one before. I'm not sure what it will consist of...but I'm going to have a go. Lol.

I gave my promo pack to the pub where it's being held - but they never got back to me - so I'm trying to use this as a little 'remember me?' kind of thing. Lol. I don't know if it will work - but it's worth a try. If I don't have a go I doubt they will ever get back to me! I think pubs are also booking their acts for next year now - so the plan is to get in there quick! ;)

Worth a try anyway. :)

I'll let you know how it goes. :) xxxxx

Stuuuudioooo :)

Ooh - just something I forgot to say earlier... (three posts today! Lol)

I'm going into the studio in December. :D Yay! I've booked my time. :) Hooraaaay! :)

Now to work on the artwork etc. :) I think a lot of it is going to be trial and error! Lol.

Wow! After saying that I don't have any gigs, I just got a call from a man at the Woodvale giving me 5 more gigs next year! Cooooool. :D

Porchfield etc. :)

Hello! I be here to tell you about the Porchfield Charity Gig. :)

Well - we arrived quite early to settle down and have a soundcheck etc. - It was literally just like a big living room/lounge area. :) Lol. - It was really nice though - very homely.

(The man who supplied the lighting forgot to supply the lighting mixer thingy, so Pete (the man who was organising it) decided to use a lamp from his house. - And just for a bit of a laugh he put a table and chairs with it - along with cups, a teapot and some teabags - like something out of a Harold Pinter play! Lol.)

So anyway - I had the soundcheck, which was good. :) And then we had a bit of a chat with Vic and waited for the audience to arrive. :)

At about quarter to eight everyone had arrived and all the tables were full. I reckon there were about 40ish people there. - Including Eva Cassidy's brother Dan. :)

So, at about quarter to eight I did my set which consisted of...

Tripping Through Violets
Beautiful Deceit
Tea Leaves and Old Magazines
Gold and Blue
Topsy Turvy World

(and then I looked at Pete to see how many more I should do and he said 'one?')

So then I said - this is my last one - and did 'Poetry.' - And said thankyou very much - but they were wooping and going 'more!' which was so cool!!! :D So I did my second ever encore! Lol. I did a cover of Lenka's 'The Show' - and then finished. :)

And then after David Hughes' set (he was really good - a great guitar player as well as a brill songwriter) there was a break. :) - So I went off to the loo - and when I came out I bumped into a man who said "Your songs are brilliant, we really enjoyed your set - we brought our friend with us today - Dan Cassidy - Eva Cassidy's brother." - and I was like...

Then he introduced me to him - he seemed really nice and said that he really enjoyed my songs - then I spoke to him a bit later too and I said about going into the studio etc. :) - Then a few ladies came up to me at the end and asked if I had a CD they could buy and where else they could watch me. I don't actually have anymore gigs at the mo so I couldn't say that I was anywhere.

I'll really have to try hard to get some more. - It's really hard to get anywhere to give you a chance though.

- I don't have any piccies from yesterday because it was very dark - pics wouldn't have come out showing anything but dark or extreme light. Lol.

Lately I've also been trying to do some album artwork. (And failing a bit.) Lol. Oh well. I'll keep trying! :)

TTFN xxxxx

P.S - After the break a man called Duncan Jones played a set - he's amazing. His songs are brill - he's such a natural. :) He's supporting Boo Hewerdine at the Quay Arts soon. I'll definitely be going to that one. :) Boo is also a great singer/songwriter. - He also plays guitar for Eddi Reader. And he wrote this song - it's quite a famous one...

Tuesday, 27 October 2009 interview is up! :)

Hi peeps :)

Just to let you know that Michael has uploaded the interview now to :) You can watch the video on his homepage. :D

The cover I was talking about is at the end of the interview. :) (Was it the one you guessed Larry? ;))

Hope you like it! :)

Studio Number 2

Hmmm...I've been thinking about the studios and I think I've made my decision. :)

Today I went to see a studio in Southampton. The chap(s) there seemed really nice - and again very helpful. The studio looked great and everything he was saying sounded really good.

I reckon that I'm going to pick this second studio. The one on Tuesday was also really good, but I kind of get a feeling that number two is the one for me. :)

We had a discussion about doing the songs with just guitar and vocals and piano and vocals, and came up with the idea of doing five that way, and five with a few more instruments. I was thinking of songs like Tea Leaves and Old Magazines and thinking that they might lose something if they were just guitar and vocals.

I've put together a list of songs. It was really difficult knowing which ones to use and leave out...but this is what I've come up with...

(They aren't in order at the mo)

Tea Leaves and Old Magazines
I Live Through the Song
Gold and Blue
Topsy Turvy World
Tripping Through Violets
Beautiful Deceit
My Little Ukulele Song
A Woman You Don't Know
Quite Blue

I may take one out of that list and put in another new one (called 'To Ireland I'll Away' (recognise that title? :))) - but I don't know what to take out.

Those ten tracks will take about 4 days in the studio. I'm not sure which ones will be the 'simple' ones though. Possibly...Gold and Blue...To Ireland I'll Away...I don't know...looking at the others it sort of seems as though I should add more instruments...but that would probably mean 5 days in the studio. I'll ask Gareth (the chap there :)).

Whilst writing this blog entry I'm currently listening to Joni Mitchell's 'Cactus Tree.' It's such a beautiful song, it's making me go all gooey! Lol. My friend Vic leant me 'Song To A Seagull' and it's gorgeous...well it's ;)

I was thinking earlier...Joni's music is like unwrapping a present that has an infinite number of layers, or a nice cup of tea that goes on forever and changes its taste at every sip so you never get sick of it. :) Or your favourite jumper that has the smell of memories, or your favourite book - you could read it a million times over and notice something special that you didn't notice before at every read. Well that's how it's making me feel anyway. :) I really feel like sitting in a really quaint cafe where the sun beams through the windows, sipping one of those cups of tea right now...I'm getting all carried away. Lost in my own funny head.

Studio Number One...

Hellooooooo! Again! :)

I'm now here to write about the studio yesterday.

First of all, I get the impression that it's going to be a VERY hard decision to make. Rupert - the man yesterday, was really nice and genuinely passionate about music and the sounds he wanted to produce. Because it was at his house - it obviously had a very homely feel. He was such a nice chap and I think I'd feel really comfortable about 'expressing' myself there.

So now I just have to visit the other studio in Southampton on Thursday and make a decision. :-S Ooh Thursday is tomorrow. I forgot about that. Lol. Cool!

I'll keep you updated when I get home tomorrow (as long as it's not too late!) :)

Lots of love

Holly xxxxxxxx

P.S - Violet has found a new home. I don't know why I look so weird in this photo. I think I was talking to Dad at the same time. That's my excuse anyway! Lol.

The Quay number three. :)

I'm back. :) I shall now write about the Acoustic Originals night at the Quay and show you some piccies. :)

I had a slightly longer set this time. Here's my set list...

Tripping Through Violets
Beautiful Deceit
Quite Blue (a new one :))
Gone For Good
My Little Ukulele Song
Gold and Blue
Topsy Turvy World
Poetry (I nearly wrote 'Pottery' then. Lol. Maybe not)

I think it was in that order. I may have muddled a few around. It was a good evening - I really enjoyed it and I had some lovely feedback too. - There was a lady there called Suzie who did a little write up about me on her website... - here's the link...

I thought that was really nice. :)
I shall now proceed to show you some photograaaaaaphs that my luverly sister took. I've had my hair cut a bit differently and I'm still getting used to it so it's a bit funny seeing it in photographs. Lol.

Here you go...

When we'd just arrived...Holly making it particularly difficult for her sister to take a 'proper' photograph...

This homemade ukulele strap is really cutting into the back of my neck :-S...A 'proper' one...

I'll try to add a few more photos on the website ( - Blogger is being a bit funny and it's really tricky for me to add them here. :-S

I'll be back shortly with a post about the studio visit yesterday. :)

Bits and bobs

Hi again peeps. :)

Thankyou so much for your great comments on the 'CD matters' post. I'm really excited now. :) After I've been to see the studios and have chosen one it will be all systems go! Then I'll have to finalise the track listing, pick a title and create some artwork! Yippeeeeee! :D I'm guessing it'll probably be released around Christmas time - fingers crossed! (Hopefully a bit before.)'s well exciting! :D

Tonight it's Acoustic Originals at the Quay Arts again - yaaaaaaay!!! :) I really enjoy these evenings and I think I'm getting less nervous each time, which is good. :) I think I'm going to take the Ukulele tonight as well...just for a bit of variation - hope the sound peeps don't mind.

I hope to be doing a new video soon by the way. An original. - Not long ago I did an interview with Michael of - and this song will be an exclusive one for the interview - then 7-10 days later it will go on my site as per norm. Soon (I don't know how soon) you'll see a video on my YouTube page that I recorded as part of the interview which tells you the address of the site and about Michael's YT channel etc.... I found it really tricky to do actually and I think I spoke a lot of rubbish. Lol. Oh well, let's just see how it turns out!

Ooh - and I got really excited yesterday... - because I saw my cousin in the audience on X-Factor!!! Well - he's actually my second cousin. He's called Richard and he's an actor. :D
After I saw him I googled him and found that he's been on one of my favourite TV programs and I didn't even notice him! Then I found the clip on YouTube and realised why... - you can skip to 3:35ish if you like - that's where he starts talking - he's the 'rake' man. Lol. - No wonder I didn't recognise him!!! Haha. :)

Ta ta for now. :D

CD matters

Hello again!

I just wanted to ask to you a few things about the CD. :) I should be going to have a look at a couple of studios next week, which will be good. :)

I just wondered... which tracks do you think I should put on the CD? It depends how much studio time I can afford as to how many tracks I put on. - But I hoping to do about... 7-10.

I can only do originals - because covers can get a bit tricky - but I can also do traditional songs such as... 'She Moved Through the Fair', 'How Can I Keep From Singing?'

After I've done a couple more YouTube videos I'll try to do some album artwork too. I'll do a few options so that you can pick one. :)

Any suggestions/ideas would be very much appreciated. :)

Ta very much. xxxxxxx

Helloooooooo!!! I be back. :) How are you all?

I'm here to report about the weekend/yesterday. :) Well...

On Saturday Mum, Dad and I went up to the University of Surrey to refresh my mind about the course and the Uni and to make sure that I 100% want to go there next year. - The actual University was a lot nicer than I remember it - and the course sounds just as interesting. I'm sort of raring to go now! lol. But I'm going to make the most of this year. It was also the first time that Mum has seen the Uni, and she said that she could imagine my being there, which was good.
Then we drove on down to Bournemouth so that I could meet up with Ben. Mum and Dad pottered round the shops for a bit and then left me with Ben for the weekend.

On Saturday we walked along the beach. There's a pier there, amusements, an aquarium, etc. etc. etc. - and there was a big sign that said "Boat trips to the Isle of Wight! £22" - which was very odd! lol. We could see the Needles from Bournemouth, which was also odd.

In the evening, we went out for a reeeeeeeally posh meal to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. It was a brand new Italian restaurant that's just opened up in Bournemouth. It was so nice. I had this really posh pasta and Ben had a really posh pizza. It was WELL tasty. We had pudding too, which was also yummy. I had this little thing that was like the top of a cheesecake, but more foamy with other bits in, wrapped in slices of lemon, with some leaves on top and some different foamy stuff in two corners of the plate. It was one of those really posh courses where you have very little on the plate to make it look extremely posh. lol. I didn't really know what it was...but it was yummy. :)

Then on Sunday Ben and I went SHOPPING! I think Ben gets annoyed with me because I look around a shop, pick out a few clothes that I like, and then put them back because 'they're quite expensive'. Ben's tighter than me, but he still gets annoyed! :-S I did buy myself a new winter coat though. It's a red duffle coat and I got lots of money off because I had a voucher and Ben's a student. lol

In the evening we went to see Michael McIntyre live at the BIC. He's my favourite comedian by far. Here's a link to a clip from his DVD if you haven't heard of him...

He was amazing. :D

And yesterday, I came home. - All on my own! lol. I caught the train, then the bus, and then the ferry. I was a bit nervous to begin with, but I got used to it and then felt very grown up. lol. :) We're a tad sheltered coming from the Island. I expect people have been going about on trains and stuff since they were about 13. lol. And here I am - nearly 19 years old - feeling proud of myself because I managed to get on the right train!

Anyhow - that was our weekend - I thoroughly enjoyed it. :) - I'll be back later to write another post about CD matters - but I have my driving lesson first. :) - Speak soon!

Waheeeeeeeey!!! 100th post! lol. I made it.

I just wanted to say that I'm going to be away for the next few days so you may not hear from me until about Tuesday. I'm going to visit my boyfriend at Uni which should be good. :)

When I was younger I used to go to Elocution lessons...pretty much like acting lessons. The teacher (Mrs Wills) would put you in for Speech and Drama festivals and Acting exams. I really enjoyed it and did quite a few exams. I actually got up to Grade 8 Acting which I think is the highest you can go to before you do Bronze, Silver and Gold. I got Honours for my Grade 8 which is the highest you can get. :) I enjoyed it a lot, but stopped going when I got to High School because of all the other things that were going on. I used to play Netball and the school Netball club was on at the same time as Elocution, so I stopped Elocution (after 10 years!) only to do Netball, but stop that after about 3 weeks. :-S I'm not generally that fickle...or perhaps I am? No. I'm not. Actually...I am...oh you get the idea. lol

Anyhow...after 4 years of not going to Elocution I've decided to start again. :) I'd really like to start doing my Acting Exams again, just for fun. I'm going today. (Aaaah!) I'm quite nervous actually - there are only 3 people in the class - one being me, the other being my cousin, and the other being one of my friends - so I don't know WHY I'm nervous. Well - I guess it's because I haven't done it for so long. Part of the reason for going back is to try and make me a little more confident again. I was standing in front of audiences and reciting poetry/prose from the age of 5 - and actually winning cups for doing so! (Which was rather cool.) - But I think I'd find it a bit trickier now. lol. Anyway, let's see. :)

TTFN peeps. :) - I may even be able to blog from Ben's laptop - we shall see. :)

Lots of love xxxxxxx

Holly at the Woodvale

I'm back to do my Woodvale post. :)

I've got a few piccies (ta Sis. :)) but the lighting was very...ummm...pubby. lol - So they're a bit fuzzy.

I played at the Woodvale from 9 - 11pm. When I arrived there were people eating their dinner and I felt a bit mean about interrupting, but that's why I was there. lol - So I got on with doing so. :-P I did all the songs that I did at Gurnard Sailing Club but with a few taken out and new ones put in...such as...

Where Do You Go To My Lovely?
Gold and Blue - original
Streets of London
Quite Blue - *new* original. lol :)
The Queen and the Soldier
Life for Rent
Fields of Gold
There weren't a great deal of people there, but I had my group of followers there! lol...Mum...Dad...Donna, Andy, Brooke, and my lovely ex-German teacher Chris. :) There were also a few people who were just in the Woodvale for a drink and stayed to listen, which was nice. :) Hang on, I've made it sound like there was literally no one there. It was near full at the beginning - but people went home as the evening went on.
Anyway - photos. ;)

Ooooo! and I had some rather exciting news today - Ashton Kutcher - (the most followed person on Twitter! - as well as being a lurvely American actor) tweeted about my cover of 99 Luftballons! lol. I was so chuffed. :D (Mum thinks he's scrummy. lol) The views have gone up by about 4000 just today!

WooOOoooOOOooo!!! :D

Haymakers' Sunday Joint :) Alroit bumpkins. :D

Hello peeps :)
Sorry it has been a while. - I'm here now though - just to do a write up about the I'm going to write about the Haymakers' Sunday Joint because I have the photos ready for you. - I'll write about the Woodvale gig asap. :)

So! Yesterday was the Haymakers' Sunday Joint! :) - It was a nice day - despite being a little overcast. It was very chilled and there was some groovy music going on.

The was a big marquee in which there was a bar and a cake stall - and a stage for the musicians. :) The sound quality was really good actually (I thought) - well - it FELT good anyway. I could hear myself and the levels seemed to be good too.

Outside there were bales of straw...hay...straw...I always get confused! :-S - on which people were sitting, chatting, (smoking lol) and just generally chilling. When the music played not many people went in the marquee/tent (delete as appropriate) to watch the musicians, but just listened from outside (which was fine by me!). I didn't feel nervous at all actually - it was just a really cool, chilled event. I performed a 20(ish) minute are the songs that I did in order...

Tripping Through Violets
Beautiful Deceit
Topsy Turvy World
Gold and Blue

And then they went "MOOORE!!!" so I did Tea Leaves and Old Magazines. :D It took me by surprise that they shouted more. No one has ever done that before...well only at the Anchor Night gigs that I used to do for school, but they were my friends so they were probs just being supportive. I've got a couple of pictures from the event...

(They're a tad blurry...and I'm pulling some proper funny

(Uber lol at the straw on my tights!...hay...straw?)

I'll try to get the Woodvale one done asap too. :)

Hope you're all groovy. :)

Lots of love,

Just a Monday :)

Hellooooo! :)
Thankyou for your lovely comments about the interview. :) You're very kind! :) - I'm glad that you could get it OK. I just found out that the interview will be playing out again tomorrow night between 9 and 10pm BST (the first half) and also (the second half) on Wednesday (same time). :)

Today I'm hoping to get at least one whole song recorded. - But I'm extremely slow and picky/fussy, so I may not. Lol - but that's my aim anyway! I think this one is going to be called 'Quite Blue' - I know I've caught on to a bit of a theme with colours at the mo, but the title just seemed to fit this one. - Again it's something rather different! lol. But hopefully it'll turn out OK.

Anyway, I'll go and get on with it!

Lots of love xxxxx

P.S - Here are a couple of photos for you. - She follows me around, and even helps me with my music! lol :)

The Interview (clips)

Hiya peeps :)

For anyone who wasn't able to get the radio interview... :) Here are both halves. :)

Thanks Uncle Tim!!! :)

Hope they're OK - thank goodness I wasn't horribly out of tune the whole time! :-S

Night night,

Love Holly xxxxx

I'm so nervous! lol. It's actually unreal... :-S

Thankyou! :) and an interview... (aaaaah!)

Hiya peeps,

Thankyou so much for your advice about the CD - it was was such a huge help. :)

I'm going to do a CD with some songs just with guitar and some just with piano. - Keep it simple to begin with. Perhaps I'll throw in one or two with a couple more instruments (if the song *needs* it) but apart from that I'm going to keep it simple.

Now I just need to make some album artwork. :) And decide on the tracks! lol.

Today I'm feeling a little nervous... :-S

It's the day of my interview on IW radio. When I played the songs there it was a bit odd - because the room was totally 'dead' - there was no echo whatsoever. So in a way it was really hard to hear myself singing...which means I'm reeeeeeally nervous that I went out of tune! :-S Aaaaaah. And I'm really worried that I sound like a total numpty too. (Aaaaaah!) Gr.

If you'd like to listen to the interview (and you're not on the Isle of Wight)...(or even if you are) can listen online at - it's on at 7pm BST. (AAAAAAAH.)

Anyway, I'll stop worrying now - because you shouldn't worry about things you can do nothing about.

Thanks again to all the people who commented on my last post - your help is very very much appreciated. :)

Love Hollyxxxxx

CD... :)

Howdy peeps :)

I didn't go to Farringford the other day. :( The lady was busy or something. Another day I guess.
Now...I need your help. ;)

I've been thinking and thinking about my CD for aaaaages, and I haven't managed to get anything done. I don't have many pennies which is my main problem. Recording an album goes into thousands and thousands of pounds, which I just don't have.

So my idea is this...

I reckon, rather than spending lots of money on session musicians/fancy production - I should just keep the music simple. - Just me and the guitar - but recorded in a studio. What do you think? - It means that I'd have a bit more money to spend on the actual CD, getting the artwork printed etc. - It's only my first album, so it doesn't have to be amazingly amazing, just a bit more professional. What do you think?

I'd better go now - it's getting late.

Acoustic Originals number 2

Now to the Acoustic Originals. :) lol

I've got a few piccies for you here. There aren't many of me actually playing but I'll just put on what I've got. :)
Tuning up...concentrating hard...

Concentrating of the only actual playing ones...

Just chatting...(I wonder what was so funny? lol)

I'm sorry - I really don't have many as Donna's camera ran out of battery.

I enjoyed playing, but I didn't feel as pleased with my performance as I did last time. That may be just me being really picky, but I didn't feel as confident. I don't know why. I think I'm going through a bit of a blip. I haven't written any songs worth sharing and I'm a bit...kind of...uninspired. I'm going to Farringford tomorrow. Hopefully that will make me feel a little better.

I'm playing at Acoustic Originals again in October. - I'll try to write something new before then.

Twitter updates - Oops! :-S

Hiya peeps :)

It has come to my attention (how formal! lol) that the Twitter updates bit at the bottom of the page has not been displaying my tweets, but someone else's (which are a tad rude at times - sorry about that) - thankyou to Uncle Tim for telling me. I don't know why this has happened - and when I tried to solve it, it just went back to the other person's tweets - so for now I've just removed the widget.

I'll try to solve it again another day. - Hopefully it'll work then!

Sorry about that,

Holly xxxxx

P.S - I'll try to write about Acoustic Originals tonight. :)

Post number 90 :)

Today I went to Isle of Wight Radio to do an interview.
Here's a link... if you want to have a look at their site. :)

The interview is being aired on the show 'Live and Local' with Glyn Taylor. - He's a really nice chap. It was fun doing the interview, but I know that I'm going to cringe when I listen back to it! lol. I don't even remember singing in tune! lol. I hope I did... :-S Aaaaaaah.

I think it's going to be aired on September 27th, which is Sunday week I do believe. Please tell me if I'm wrong! lol. 7pm is the time I think. It may be 8pm - but 7pm to be safe! lol.

You can listen online I think - I should also have a copy on CD and therefore I can upload it to the website. :)

Hope everyone is well :)

A girly day out

On Thursday Donna and I went out for a lil trip. :) We went up to Carisbrooke Castle to get some exercise and then went for lunch. It was really nice spending time with Donna, we don't do many girly day out things like that.

I've got a few pics that Donna took and has sent me, but she didn't send me the ones that she's in! lol. So they're all of me at the mo. :-S I'll try to steal some from her soon though. :)

Ok - so here's Holly looking like a bit of a wally. - Mid-speak/wave or something, but I included it so that you can see a bit of the castle in the background.

There's a walkway that you can walk on (funny that! lol) all around the top of the castle. We didn't go on it on Thursday, but I remember as a school child on school trips being too scared to go up the stairs. What a wimp. I don't think I've ever been up them actually...I should do that sometime...

Here's Holly looking goofy and trying to shell a prawn at The Blacksmiths. Donna had to teach me how to do it... lol.
It was a very yummy lunch. :) Tiger prawns cooked in garlic butter with tiger bread and salad. Yuuuummy. And now I know how to de-shell prawns too! lol.
I'd better go now. It's getting late here.

A Family Fun Day

Woah! I haven't posted in ages. :-S

Oops. :-S

I'll cast my mind back...aaaah...there we go.

On the August 31st I performed at a family fun day at a local community club. It was quite fun actually - you may have seen a few piccies on the website 'photos' section.

I arrived, ready to play at 2pm - just with my guitar - as that was all that was needed...(they supplied the rest.) But then they said "We'll just wait for half an hour - they need to do some of the children's races." I was there with an entertainment agency on the Island - well...not WITH them - but performing because they asked me to. (They're called The Stardust Agency

So...we waited for about half an hour...and then the adjudicator man said: "Stay with us folks! Only a few more races to go and then we've got music from the lovely Holly Sibley!"

Apparently I'm called Holly Sibley well as everything else I've been called...

Molly Kirby, Holly Kirkby, Lucy Kirby, Hilly Kirby...Holly Sibley. An easy mistake to make. :-/

The chappy (Dave) from the agency laughed and said: "Oooh nooo...I even wrote it down for him because he couldn't get it right!"...So we had a little chuckle about that.

Then after two more races (and about half an hour) the adjudicator man said: "Only FIVE races to go now and then we've got Holly Sibley playing for us!"

We had another little chuckle...and then my sister said..."Hang on, I'll go and give him one of Holly's business cards so he gets it right!"...

So she went over to him, handed him a business card and you just heard him say through his microphone..."OH! Hello Holly! It's lovely to meet you! Thankyou for the card!"...thinking that my sister was me. So that didn't work. Though at least he knows now that it's Holly Kirby, rather than Holly Sibley. :-S

Then I was introduced by a chappy from the agency, and I started with 'Home Again'. Then as I reached the chorus I heard this loud, booming voice coming through the speakers - and it was the adjudicator man again, just having a conversation with someone into his microphone! So, naturally I burst out laughing, but he just carried on. And so did I - after pulling myself together!
It was a nice sunny day and I really enjoyed it. I went on for about 45 minutes doing a mixture of covers and originals. It was a good day - and the minor, comical blips just made it funny. :) are a few piccies...

Did he just say...'Sibley'?

Was that five more?...right...

Action shot...

Here's the moment the chappy started talking over my singing.

Now for today's news...

Phew! I've been waiting for what seems like aaaaaages...and Dad has loads of red ones already...but NOW! Muahahaha! Mine are going red. :) Mine are going reeeeeed! *Does happy dance!* Here's a picture...

Top of the World

I'm sat in my room, listening to Carpenters on vinyl. I've only just discovered that wonderful sound and now I plan to collect all of Joni Mitchell's albums on vinyl. - Might be a challenge, but I think I'm up to it! :)
I thought about that after watching her performance on YouTube of 'California' with her Appalachian Dulcimer. It was so good and I thought...that would sound incredible on vinyl. Vinyl has such a raw sound. I really love it. I think I could sit here all day long just listening...but I have things to do. :)
And I'm sure you know what vinyl sounds like.

Today I went to collect my A Level results. I'm quite pleased. :)

I got an A for English Literature, an A for German and a C for Music. (I told you music didn't go too well. Lol)

I have no idea what I'm going to do next though. I've got a place at the University of Surrey to do this course...

...but I'm not really sure whether I want to do it. I didn't enjoy A-Level Music in any way whatsoever. Hmmmm. It's like my results are hinting at me...*dooon't do're better at the oooootheeeeers*'s a lot to decide right now. I think I'll write a song! lol

A visit ;)

Last week a person who may seem rather familiar to you YouTubers came down for a visit... :) I thought I'd write a little blog about it. :)

On Thursday morning we went to the ferry terminal to pick Rob up...we were a tad nervous...well I was anyway! lol. But the time came and we were watching the people coming off the ferry saying..."is that Rob?" "Nooo..." "Is THAT Rob?" "Nooooo..." and then finally......"That's him!" :D

We said hi - and I think we were all how we expected each other to be. Rob's a genuinely lovely chap and we had a lot of fun mosying round the Island.

On Day 1 we pottered down the beach and walked along to Cowes which was good - it was beautiful and sunny too. Then in the evening we went up to see Donna, Andy and Brooke. They'd just been away so it was lovely to see them.

The next day Donna, Andy, Brooke, Rob, Ben and I went out in the camper van. It was really good fun - and reeeeeally sunny and hot. We went to the beach first and stayed there for a few hours before going on Chale, Shanklin, Ventnor and Sandown.

Then the next day Mum, Dad, Rob and I went to Tennyson Down and recorded a little bit of video - which you can't hear at all because of the wind! lol. But the picture looks good! Then we went for a very nice pub lunch and then to Sainsbury's on the way home to get some food for a BBQ. Donna, Andy and Brooke came round for the BBQ, which was rather yummy.

Then the next day we had one of Mum's lovely roast dinners before Rob departed in the afternoon. It was sad really - we had a good couple of days - it was great having him to stay.

Here's a pic taken just before he left...

Here's Rob's YT channel if you don't know who I'm on about! lol.

Another gig! Yeeeeah maaaan.

I found out yesterday that I have another gig tonight - waaaheeeeey!
Another two hour one - sorted out by the same chappy that booked me for the GSC two hour one. This time it's at a cocktail party - just as background music I think - which is pretty cool. So I'm going to be practising for that today and getting my set list together.

Last night I went to a pub quiz with my friends which was really good fun. We were last...but hey - it was a laugh! lol. There was one question that they wouldn't have got without me being there! lol. :D Something to do with The Sound of Music. :)

Anyway, I'd better go and get practising!

See you laterrrrr,

Thankyou BlogTVers! :)

Hoooowdy :)

I just wanted to say a huuuuuuuuge thankyou to everyone who joined me on BlogTV at the weekend. It was a lot of fun, despite the wasp, and me doing lots of waffling! I'll be doing another one when I've got some more material to show you. :) I'm currently practising for my two hour gig tomorrow (aaaaah!) but after that I hope to start music making with a vengeance!...Die Hard with a Vengeance...Die Hard 1...Alan Rickman...woops!

Corr, this is my 80th post. That's a lot for me. I've started so many diaries and never reached the end! I think blogging is the best way of doing it for me...though I do like getting a pen out and actually writing. Maybe I'll hand write a post one day and scan it in!

Anyway, I'd better go and get practising!

Lots of love xoxoxox

P.S - I hope you've been feeding my fish! lol

Bits 'n' Bobs

I thought I'd better do a little catch up post as I haven't posted in a while. I think I've got a few photos I can show you and stuff. I haven't been around a lot lately because I've been having a huuuuge clear out of my room. I haven't done so since I was about ten! it was rather huge. But now that's pretty much done and I'm practising for a 2 hour gig that's coming up on Wednesday (aaaaaah! lol).

Anyway - the disco on Friday was good fun. I went as a mixture of Debbie Harry, Kim Wilde and Holly! lol...

Donna requested Mr. Brightside by the Killers and even though I've performed it before I couldn't remember all of the words so thought it best to use the lyric sheet...but then realised I didn't have a music stand...or did I?...

Thanks Brooke! lol. She introduced me too, she was so good. She's such a little actress. :)

Oh I've got a pic of Violet...

She likes to watch the Moto GP with Dad - Dad's a huge Valentino Rossi fan, so he was pretty pleased at this pic! lol...

I'd better go and get practising now...I'm still in my jim jams! lol

Wow, I really haven't posted very much this week! I've been off and about doing different things. I'll try to cast my mind back...

Sunday marked a year since the man whom this song was written about...

...left us. So we went to the cemetery and left a rose there for him.

Monday. Ah yes. Monday was Ben's birthday, so we spent the day together. I cooked a three course meal for him - which was VERY stressful!...but it seemed to turn out OK, and I think he liked it...apart from the yells of "BEN LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I'M PANICKING!!!" and "I CAN'T CONCENTRATE WITH YOU WATCHING ME!!! GOOOO AWAAAAY!!!" That's right, I can shout - as loud as capitals. I can be a bit of a boss floss really. I have a video of me doing a puzzle with my Nannie when I was about 2 and I'm being incredibly bossy and she says "Alright boss floss!" It's because I like everything to be just so. Anyway - the meal/breakfast turned out rather well actually, if I may say so myself.

Breakfast: Caramelised pears with Scotch pancakes and a dollop of double cream. (Everything's measured in dollops these days - get with the times!)

Starter: Warm goat's cheese on a bed of salad with sesame seeds and a rich balsamic dressing.

Main: Chicken fillet stuffed with grated, strong cheddar cheese, Boursin and wholegrain mustard, wrapped in two pieces of bacon, with salad leaves and baby new potatoes.

Dessert: Chocolate tart thing with moussey stuff in it and topped with a dollop of cream and one cherry with chocolate sauce.

So that was that! And then Ben and I went out to a Chinese Restaurant with Ben's parents and brother for tea. It was really posh, but I felt really guilty because I couldn't eat very much and it was pretty much an all you can eat thing.

So that was Monday.

Ummm...Tuesday? Oh yes! On Tuesday I went into school to collect a 'prize' as our school prize giving was cancelled. They just held a really mini prize giving for trophy winners, which means that I won a trophy! Cool. :) So, I got there and sat down with my friends and then they called out the names of the winners and what they'd won...(none of us knew what we'd won before they called out our names)...and then Mr. Jones called out 'Holly Kirby Level 3 Music' and I kind of feel and "Oh no!!!" in my tummy, because the exam went terribly and I can pretty much guarantee that I've got below what I need for Uni. And then whilst I was thinking about that, he called out 'Holly Kirby Level 3 German' and I was like "Oh!!" lol. So I got two awards. And I also got a certificate saying that I had been commended in Music, German and English Lit...which is all of my subjects! Which is also cool. The trophies mean that you're the 'best in your year' for that particular subject. Well. I'm one of two in music. Me and Larry, the guy who did the porn thing. And in German, I'm one of......

Maybe I shouldn't have told you that, then you would've thought that I was just really good. Hah. :)

After that, Donna picked me up in her convertible and we whizzed of into the sunset. The End...

Or is it?

On Wednesday we (Mum, Dad, Holly, Ben) went to see Brooke's end of year play. The children performed Scheherazade - 1001 Arabian Nights and it was brilliant. Brooke had one of the lead roles and she was an absolute star. She remembered all her words and put loads of expression in. I felt so proud. It's Brooke's last year at primary school this year - so after the performance (still on the stage) they had a little prize giving for all the Year 4 leavers. The class teachers asked each child to stand up individually, and then read a little piece out that they'd written about the child. Brooke's teacher's piece about her was so lovely. She obviously knows her very well. After each child had been spoken about and collected a little present (a book) from the school, the teacher's handed out a few trophies. I remember them from when I was at school. There's a 'Good Citizen' trophy for the person who is always kind and caring around school and looks after others, there's a Numeracy and Literacy trophy for the person who is best at maths and the person who is best at Literacy, and there's also the 'Sunshine trophy'. The Sunshine trophy is for the child who is always happy around school, helpful, caring, works hard...the person who is literally...a little ray of sunshine... :)

Brooke got it!!! I was so proud I burst into tears! lol. I know...bit of a numpty...I never usually cry/get emotional at anything like that. Sometimes I do at sad TV dramas but not happy crying. The last time I cried because I was happy was when I received a message from Enya. And the time before that was when Brooke was born, and that was when I was nine! She thoroughly deserved the trophy, she's just so wonderful.

So yes, that was a very good Wednesday.

That was yesterday...yes. I went to the mainland to do some shopping. I got...

Some earrings
White shoes for customization
Heart sunglasses
Starry braces
Girl boxers
Two hairbands
Glasses for mum
Play tunnel for Violet
Comfy trackies
Two little bags
A T-Shirt for Ben
Hair elastics

That might've been it. It didn't come to much. Everything was cheap. For example - shoes = £2.50. - Braces = 50p!

That's today. I'm going to do a set tonight at a disco - just to break it up in the middle. It's 80s themed so I'm going as Deborah Harry - HOORAAAY!!! I wanted to go as Hans Gruber...

*Swoooon*...but Ben wouldn't allow it. Grrr...

So that's today really. I'm also taking Violet to the vet for her vaccinations. And next week I'm tidying my room which will be reeeeally...time consuming!

Just a feeling

I feel today like I haven't felt for a long time. It's hard to explain what kind of mood that is, but it's one which includes writing in my blog, so I'm sorry - but you may have to put up with a bit of random, meaningless rambling today. ;)

It's the feeling that I had in the long holiday after GCSE. It's a kind of naive...hopeful feeling. I'm not saying that I've been feeling depressed, or in a state of lacking hope...but before the exams, possibly since September, I've been feeling...kind of...flat. A bit nothingy. But during the past few days things have picked up, and that may have something to do with the videos. It feels like I can see clearly again and I'm more aware of my own thoughts. I'm enjoying listening to music again, and it makes me feel like it used to - alive - and passionate. I think passion was the missing component. But now I want to learn, I want to listen and improve. I want to create things and get things wrong so that I know how to do them properly the next time around. I'm going to delve into the misty depths that comprise my own confusing little mind and try to make some sense of what's going on in there.

I was also thinking today about why I feel awkward talking to people. I find it particularly difficult talking with people my own age. When I make friends it always to seems to be on the surface. I feel like I'm not telling them everything. I tend to think...if I can't even understand me then I'm not really giving them a chance. I find talking to adults easier. I like to think about serious things - things that are to do with life, love, real things, the way we are. And because that's led me to think in such a serious way, I find that when I talk to people who are my own age, it feels like I have to 'adapt'. Sometimes Ben and I talk and he tells me to 'be a teenager'. I think he's right, but it's hard to change just like that, and I cant, because my heart wouldn't be in it if I tried. I like talking to interesting people who have stories to tell, rather than learning what's hot and what's not. Fashion doesn't really interest me. I like to wear what I like to wear and if that's what's 'in' then so be it, but I wouldn't change just to be a clone. We're born to be different, so what's the point in being the same? I think nature's giving us a bit of a clue there.

I ought to go now. I'm sorry about the waffle, I just thought I'd speak before I lost the moment.

Night night xxxxx

P.S - I love you guys oxoxoxo :)

Sorry I haven't been on for the past couple of days, - I've been spending quite a bit of time on the video I've just uploaded...

I kind of had troubles with the video for this one. I tried a number of ideas, but went with the really simple one in the end. Thankyou so much for your lovely comments. It really means a lot. :) I'm really glad that you like it. I hope to do another one shortly - Gone For Good - and possibly a couple more - which probably means that I won't be round much for the next couple of days.

Anyway, I'd best be off,

Saturday, 4 July 2009

Hi all,

Today I started to record Gone For Good on Cubase in preparation for YouTube, but things didn't seem to be going quite right. And then we noticed that something wasn't quite the ticket with Violet. She's very sleepy and doesn't move very far without having to lie down - and she was sick this afternoon. :( So I called the emergency vet and took her up to be checked over. She couldn't really tell what was wrong, but thought it was probably tummy problems and said that we should keep an eye on her - and she also gave her some antibiotics. I'm worried about her - I really hope she gets better soon. She's normally so lively, but she has been so lethargic today. I really hope she perks up soon.

Anyway, I'd better go now,

Night night,

First time at the Buddle

The gig last night was really cool. The Adventurists ( ) were amazing - as were the other support acts - Zoe Eady, who can be found here - and Rose Millard and Ed Miller (I don't know about their site). It was really informal and such a great atmosphere. Daniel and Sam (The Adventurists) were really cool and completely at ease in front of the audience. I learnt a lot. I sang the songs that I said I would in my post yesterday minus I Live Through the Song (there are those italics again!) but I swapped around Topsy Turvy World and Gone For Good. I keep mentioning that song but you haven't heard it yet. You will soon in some form I expect.
Here's a pic...

Well, it's Leavers tonight. I'd better get practising.

I'll speak to you tomorrow,

Gigs gigs gigs! (Three of 'em)

Howdy there :)

Last night's little gig thingy went pretty well I think. I was just a bit of entertainment after the people had eaten. I did six songs - Tea Leaves and Old Magazines, Beautiful Deceit, Tripping Through Violets, 1 2 3 4 (by Feist), Carrickfergus and Poetry. It was really fun and I got some lovely feedback afterwards. I was a little nervous about doing Carrickfergus as I'd never done that one live before and slower songs are generally harder to sing live because the long sustained notes provide more nervous wobble opportunities! But I was really chuffed because I just thought to myself 'just get on with it' and I did - and I didn't do any nervous wobbles. (I don't think so anyway!)
People came up to me afterwards to tell me that they enjoyed it which was cool. :) One man said that he really enjoyed listening to my lyrics, and a couple of people told me how Celtic I sounded which I was really pleased about. :D One lady was telling me how Celtic Tea Leaves and Old Magazines sounded - and another lady said that she also had Irish roots and really enjoyed Carrickfergus.
All in all it was a good little gig thing. :) I enjoyed it a lot. :)

The Buddle Inn tonight - I'm doing a thirty minute set which will probably consist of...

Tea Leaves and Old Magazines
Beautiful Deceit
Tripping Through Violets
Gone For Good
Topsy Turvy World

...with I Live Through the Song as a spare.

Our school leavers ball is tomorrow evening and I'm also playing there as people are coming in. I'm really looking forward to that actually. When I first started singing I found it so difficult to sing in front of friends - but now I really enjoy it. Because they know me already it feels like they're extra supportive - whereas when you perform to people you don't know - you know that they're judging you/forming an opinion of you for the first time which is the nerve-wracking bit!

So - a pretty busy week this week! Three gigs in one week is quite tiring, but I imagine that when the music year gets into full swing I'll be sometimes doing more than that!

TTFN xxxxx

P.S - Not sure what possessed me to do those italics, but I think it's a little more grammatically correct. Sleep deprivation...

P.P.S - Happy Canada Day! :)
